2015 Nationals in Warrnambool

The 2015 Australian Indoor Bias Bowls Championships will be held in Warrnambool in August 2015. Arranged by the Victorian Indoor Bias Bowls Association Inc and Indoor Bowls Warrnambool on behalf of the Australian Indoor Bias Bowls Council Inc.

The 46th National Indoor Bias Bowls Championships are to be held at The Warrnambool Basketball Stadium in Warrnambool.
The City of Warrnambool is supporting this event which will be officially opened by the Mayor at 8:00am on Tuesday 25th August 2015.

Play will commence immediately after the opening and will continue daily until approximately 1.00pm on Saturday 29th August 2015.

The National Championships are held in a different state each year on a five-year rotation basis. They were last held in Victoria at Shepparton in 2010.
This is the first time they have been held in Warrnambool.
At the National Championships fifty-six players from each of 5 States compete in one of the 12 events-:

Singles (ladies, men, girls and boys)                    Pairs (ladies, men and mixed)

Triples (ladies and men)                                       Fours (ladies, men and mixed)

Two teams from each state compete in each event in a round robin contest, i.e. each team playing every other team in that event thus playing 9 games in all over the 4 ½ days of competition. The team winning the most games become the National Champion in that event and the State winning the greatest number of games aggregated across all events is awarded the coveted Jack Gore Trophy. The Jack Gore Trophy has been won by Victoria 11 of the past 12 years.

Each state is represented by 2 boys and 2 girls in a singles competition the winning state is awarded the Bill Newman Trophy.

The national championships will see between 800-1000 people in the region for the duration of the games, with many staying on in the area either prior to or after the championships.
