The combination of Shane Cashill and lead Brendan Keane won the men’s pairs.
It was Keane’s first appearance at the championships.
Warrnambool’s silver medal was picked up in the men’s triples, thanks to Graham Firth (skip), John Hovard (second) and Ray Bond (lead).
It was Bond’s first win at Ballarat
Indoor Bias Bowls Warrnambool secretary Rex Harris said it was a momentous result for the club.
“We had several players who stepped up in new positions who all performed admirably,” he said.
“Four gold medals and one silver is the best Warrnambool has achieved in the 20 years of the event.”
Warrnambool finished second in the club shield, only three points behind Ballarat Gold. Points were awarded for wins and draws and Warrnambool’s second placing was also its best.
Harris said the competition level was high due to the presence of Victorian players.
“The majority of the state team play for their associations and are spread out over the 10 events, creating very strong competition,” he said.
“All other Warrnambool teams performed very well, with some only missing out on a medal by percentage only.”
Ashley Taylor, 12, played alongside mother Georgie in the mixed fours, with third Vince Lenehan and skip Gilmour Bates. The combination won two games.
Team manager Bruce Watts provided great support for the association.
Heytesbury also picked up three medals at the titles.
Arthur Finch collected gold in the men’s singles, Jan Ovens was runner up in the Ladies Singles, while Doreen Coverdale (skip), Marjorie Burnett (third), Joan Rantall (second) and Nicole Van Someren (lead) were runner-up in the women’s fours.
